Franklyn Gimbel
Community Champion
“There is nothing that we do that should be measured by a direct economic impact.
Giving back is a crucial part of being a good citizen."
This quote reflects Franklyn Gimbel’s commitment to community.
Frank’s roots are in Milwaukee and serving the community has always been his vision. Raised in Milwaukee by his parents, Harold and Virginia Gimbel, Frank was taught the importance of education at an early age. After graduating UW-Madison, Frank continued to pursue a law degree from Marquette University. This past spring, Marquette Law School granted him the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Frank began his career working for Phil Croen as a lawyer. He later founded his own practice, Gimbel, Riley, Guerin and Brown, a preeminent law firm that continues to thrive and handle high profile and complex cases.
Frank is a model of leadership and service to his community. He served on the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission, was elected President of the Wisconsin State Bar, and in May 1994, was appointed by Governor Tommy G. Thompson to serve on the Wisconsin Center District Board of Directors. It was under Frank’s guidance that the District completed the construction, renovation and financing of the buildings which form the core of Milwaukee’s convention business, the Wisconsin Center, The UWM Panther Arena, and the Milwaukee Theater. Frank has also been involved in the Milwaukee Rotary Club and has served as President of the club in 2001.
Frank’s uncompromising dedication to law, justice, partnership, Judaism and community is admirable and cannot go without recognition. Frank’s honors and awards include: The Superior Performance Award given by the Attorney General, Milwaukee Bar President from 1967-77, Chairman of the Wisconsin Board of Governors, 1981-82, named one of the best lawyers in America for criminal defense from 1983 to present, and The American Jewish Committee’s Humanitarian Award in 2002, and the Luncheon of Champions JFS award in 2011.
Frank considers his family his greatest accomplishment. He is proud to be the father of Tod Gimbel, Josh (Julia) Gimbel, Rachel (Benjy) Wagner, and Noah (Maria) Gimbel. He is blessed with six grandchildren: Elijah Gimbel, Lena Gimbel, Sanjay Gimbel, Ella Wagner and Harold Wagner. Frank loves to live life to the fullest with his wife Annie of 33 years.
We at MJP recognize Frank as a leader, a giver, a role model and a visionary and are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate his accomplishments.
